Remote Working at Pilates Class UK: Transforming Careers and Creating Opportunities

Updated: May 17

In today's rapidly evolving workplace landscape, remote working has become more than just a temporary solution—it's reshaping how companies operate and how professionals build their careers. At Pilates Class UK, we've embraced this transformation, creating flexible opportunities that benefit both our business and our team members. Today, we're sharing insights from our remote working model through the experience of one of our talented marketing interns and our founder's vision for the future of work.

A Founder's Vision: Remote Work by Design

At the heart of Pilates Class UK's remote-first approach is a deliberate vision from our CEO and founder, Bethan Dando. Far from being just an operational decision, our remote working model reflects our core values and innovative approach to building a modern wellness business.

"I wanted to build a business where team members were empowered to manage their own tasks and work from anywhere they wanted," explains Bethan. "My teenage son started the idea by opening up my mind to the way that a younger generation likes to work and can excel when empowered and structured in the right way."

This intergenerational insight has proven invaluable as Pilates Class UK develops its distinctive company culture. By learning from digital natives who naturally collaborate across distances and time zones, we've created a work environment that feels natural to professionals of all ages.

The company's approach is also informed by successful models in other industries. "We have utilised tools such as Monday.com, and I was inspired by other software companies who have excelled with a complete remote workforce," Bethan shares. "Work-life balance is extremely important to me and my family, and in this day and age, we want our team to excel without compromising on seeing the world and trying new things."

The Student Perspective: Balancing University and Professional Growth

For university students like Izzy, a 21-year-old Business Management student at Cardiff University, remote working has opened doors that might otherwise have remained closed. Traditional internships often require physical presence during standard business hours, creating challenges for students with packed lecture schedules and coursework deadlines.

"I have loved the flexibility that I have at Pilates Class as it has been a role that I have been able to fit around my university schedule and I have been able to maintain a good work-life balance," Izzy shared in her recent feedback.

This flexibility is precisely what makes remote working so valuable for young professionals taking their first steps into their careers while completing their education. Rather than choosing between academic success and professional experience, remote opportunities allow them to excel in both areas.

Skill Development in a Virtual Environment

One common concern about remote working, particularly for interns and early-career professionals, is whether the experience provides adequate learning opportunities. Our experience at Pilates Class UK suggests that remote roles can be extraordinarily rich in skill development.

During her five-month marketing internship, Izzy has been responsible for "creating, scheduling and organising social media and email marketing content as well as working with the rest of the team to drive sales." These practical marketing responsibilities have translated into tangible skills:

"I've picked up lots of useful marketing skills while working at Pilates Class. I'm much better at creating content that actually connects with the intended audience, and I've gotten pretty good at understanding all those analytics to see what's working in our campaigns."

Beyond technical marketing capabilities, remote working has fostered crucial professional skills:

"Working remotely has honestly been great for my growth! I've gotten much better at managing my own schedule and staying on top of projects without someone looking over my shoulder. I've had to step up my communication game too – being clear and proactive about updates and questions has become second nature. I've also gotten comfortable with all sorts of digital tools that make remote work possible."

These self-management, communication, and digital literacy skills are increasingly valued in today's workplace—making remote internships excellent preparation for future career success.

Creating Community in a Virtual Workplace

While our remote model has been overwhelmingly positive, we're always looking for ways to improve. One insight from Izzy's feedback was the suggestion for "a group chat to share what things are going on." This highlights an important consideration for remote-first companies: intentionally creating spaces for team connection and information sharing.

The spontaneous conversations that happen in physical offices need digital equivalents in remote environments. At Pilates Class UK, we're constantly refining our approach to virtual team building and communication to ensure that everyone feels connected to our mission and to each other.

With our core team of five full-time professionals plus our valued Cardiff University interns, maintaining strong communication channels is vital to our collaborative success. Our partnership with Cardiff University has been particularly rewarding, allowing us to bring fresh perspectives into our business while providing valuable real-world experience to students.

The Future of Work at Pilates Class UK

As we look to the future, we're excited about the opportunities that remote working creates—not just for our current team of five and our Cardiff University interns, but for the diverse talent we can now attract regardless of geographic location.

"I have really enjoyed my experience so far and am super excited to see what opportunities there are at Pilates Class in the future!" Izzy's enthusiasm reflects the positive culture we're building, one where flexibility and growth go hand in hand.

Our ongoing partnership with Cardiff University has become a cornerstone of our talent development strategy. By providing meaningful remote internships to business students, we gain innovative perspectives while helping to shape the next generation of marketing professionals. This relationship has proven so successful that we plan to expand these educational partnerships in the coming years.

For students and professionals considering their next career move, Izzy's recommendation is clear: "I think that remote working is an amazing opportunity—especially for university students and I would highly recommend this type of role."
